Carpenter, Matsen pace Minico past Pocatello in season opener

RUPERT, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) The boys basketball season is officially underway. We take you to Minico High School as the Spartans host Pocatello in a battle of Great Basin Conference foes.

These teams will play each other twice in the regular season, as members of the east pod.

Pocatello strikes first as Jadyn Downs on the move, sees Sheldon Romriell left open for the easy bucket.

Spartans counter, with Rylan Chandler firing a bounce pass into Kobe Matsen, he gets a hold of it and goes up strong for two of his 21 points.

For the Indians, instead of staying inside, Romriell connects with Tyler Olsen from the corner, he drains the three, nothing but net. Pocatello up 5–2.

Later in the quarter, Spartans down six, Minico passes it around the arch, until finally Kasen Carpenter nails the three ball, one of five threes for him.

He led all scorers with 27 points and helped the team out from long range and fashionable dunks.

Rylan Chandler added 13 points.

Minico takes this one, 76—66.

Burley 69, Canyon Ridge 45: Jace Whitling led the Bobcats with 21 points.

Carey 52, Butte 48: Brigham Parke had 16 points and 16 rebounds.
