College of Idaho fights back, books trip to quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, Sd. (KMVT/KSVT) The College of Idaho made it to the round of 16 of the NAIA Division II National Tournament Friday afternoon. The No. 2 Yotes would have their hands full with the No. 3 seed, Cornerstone out of Michigan.

This game went down to the wire and then some, the Yotes trailing by three with 18 seconds to play, Keun Palu-Thompson pulls up for the game-tying three and drains it.

But there's plenty of time for the Golden Eagles to get down the court. Sam Vander Sluis in transition, already having an amazing night, misses the go ahead lay-up. Then Palu-Thompson comes away with the ball, he's fouled and the Yotes have a chance to configure a plan for the last ten seconds of the game.

Talon Pinckney with the game-winner? No. So close though and they head into overtime.

Now with seconds remaining in overtime, the Yotes go up by three points following Pinckney's free throws. he had 24 points. and the College of Idaho hangs on for the 86-82 win. Vander Sluis did go out in style for the Golden Eagles with 39 points and 14 rebounds.

The Yotes advance to the quarterfinal round against Cornerstone Saturday at 6 p.m.
