Dean wins amateur golf championship after leading since day one

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) An Eagle golfer wins the Championship Flight of the Idaho State Amateur Championship at Canyon Springs Golf Course.

Colby Dean, who just finished playing for Chico State is the newly crowned men's champion. He took home a purse of $750 after shooting a -10. He posted scores of a first–round best 65, then 69 and 72.

Bishop Kelly High School graduate and now Notre Dame golfer Hunter Ostrom chased Dean, but finished second with a -6. He still walked away with $500.

Daniel Gaspar tied for seventh, finishing the highest of local golfers. He posted a three over par. The recent Twin Falls graduate signed with University of Missouri, Kansas City in November.

"The course has been in great shape. Thank you to Canyon Springs for getting it in the best shape that I've seen. The 75 guys is a good size field," tournament director Taylor Judy explained.

Those who qualified for the tournament needed to have a handicap of 15.0 or below.
