Declo holds off Sugar-Salem, despite obstacles; 2A roundup

DECLO, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Both Declo and Sugar–Salem were voted to win their conferences by the coaches. These two have gone to battle in the past six opening games and none of them have been blowouts.

All eyes on Boise State commit Keegan Duncan, but the Digger defense didn't let him do much in the first quarter. In fact, the Hornets produced only 26 rushing yards at the half.

Early in the second quarter, McKay Shulties broke out for this first down run for Sugar–Salem putting them in the red zone. A few plays later, Samuel Parkinson punches it in for Sugar. They take a 7–0 lead.

But Declo finally comes alive and hangs on for the 16–14 win. Duncan went out of the game with a bruised muscle. According to Coach Kelly Kidd, the senior all–star continues to get muscle spasms. Kidd hopes he'll be available next Friday against another perennial powerhouse, Aberdeen.
