Duncan named Gatorade Idaho Football Player of the Year

DECLO, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) For the first time ever, Declo High School has a Gatorade Idaho Football Player of the Year and it's none other than Keegan Duncan.

After Highland product and future Ohio State lineman Tommy Togiai earned the award last year, Duncan was the frontrunner in 2018.

The 6'3" 220 pound running back and defensive back is a three-time first-team all-state selection.

This past season he rushed for 2,041 yards to go along with 27 touchdowns on 130 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 595 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The senior Boise State commit threw for four scores and he returned three punts, two kickoffs and two interceptions for touchdowns.

Declo went undefeated in bcck to back seasons, to win a pair of 2A state championship titles, an accomplishment that means more to Duncan than anything he achieved individually.

"Me and McKay (Breshears) watched our older brothers win two state championships. That’s what we wanted to do," explained Duncan. "We wanted to follow in their footsteps. Me and McKay and my coaches were talking, if we would have lost that state championship game, this last season wouldn’t have meant anything."

Duncan has the opportunity to award a $1,000 grant to a local or national youth sports organization of his choosing. He is also eligible to submit an essay to win one of twelve $10,000 spotlight grants for the organiztion of his choice.

With a 3.97 GPA, Duncan signs with Boise State on December 19.
