Former Gooding softball star invited to play overseas

GOODING, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) A Gooding native has a chance to represent the United States overseas in a softball tournament.

Savannah Fleming is fundraising for her trip to Holland next year, as she'll compete in the Netherlands Friendship Series.

Fleming has always starred on her teams, from Gooding High School to Big Bend Community College.

But in November 2017, she had surgery and missed the preseason at William Penn University in Iowa. "I kept my head down trying to get back to where I was before, it was a struggle, but everybody has those," Fleming explained.

She started out base running and eventually made progress, but her coach saw something in Savannah, enough to recommend her to the USA Athletes International Softball team. "Not a lot of girls get that opportunity or be recommended by their coach."

It's the last summer before her senior year in college and she has 11 months to prepare for the Netherlands Friendly Series, an Olympic-style tournament.

With softball quickly coming to a close, she'll always keep the sport fond to her heart. "My highest of highs and lowest of lows, they have softball in common. Throughout the ups and downs of my love, softball has always been there for me no matter From a young age, it's led to me believe in something that's much bigger than myself."
