Gonzaga Men's Basketball has unfinished business

BOISE, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) The reigning national runner-up highlights a talented group of teams converging this week in Boise. Gonzaga Men's Basketball, the first to 30 wins this season, boasts a streak of 20 straight years in the NCAA tournament.

And while it's the closest team proximity wise to Boise, that's not the only connection.

Boise State has a special tie to Gonzaga. After all, that's where the Broncos picked up their future head coach.

Gonzaga head men's basketball coach Mark Few said, "have a ton of family down her and marcy is from here. and obviously Leon Rice is my former assistant and he's basically family. So we spend a lot of time down here in Boise in the offseason."

There's been some talk about the future of Zags hoops, including a possible move to another conference. The Mountain West has been mentioned, bu Gonzaga coach Mark Few joked that he doesn't want to face BSU.

"Leon's got it rolling down here. They have had an unbelievable year this year. I marveled at the job that he did and his players did," Few added.

Gonzaga lost about half its athletes from last year's historic season. So a lot of new faces have had to step up and lead the Bulldogs to a 30 win campaign.

For band member Megan Schultz, she said, "I'm hoping for a great run this year, go to the championship, win this time, that would be incredible. I just have so much love for this Gonzaga community."

Senior guard Silas Melson said, "definitely stuck with us. We all headed into this tournament with a chip on our shoulder because of last year."

Redshirt junior Josh Perkins added, "we just took how close we were last year, knowing the small things we didn't do in the championship game that we can just apply to the tournament this year, just doing that."

Thursday morning is creeping up on the Bulldogs as they face a 27-7 UNC Greensboro squad.

Obviously the guard Alonso is really dangerous. He's got his hands on the ball a lot and he makes a lot of plays, scores it, facilitates. He's really crafty, but they they've got good size and rim protection in the back. Their defensive numbers jump out at you...You get 34 games in and you see a lot in the course of a year. So we just have to draw on all those experiences. "

Gonzaga and UNC Greensboro tip off at 11:30 a.m.
