Dietrich Football starts the year against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in 2014.
Rockland is coming to town on Friday and the Blue Devils are ready for them.
A pair who won't be playing are two starters who are out with injuries. This includes running back Porter Robertson who strained his knee.
Coach Rick Astle expects them to return in a couple of weeks.
The Blue Devils are playing in the always tough Sawtooth Conference West Division and feel they'll be competitive in 2015.
The skilled players are fast and if the linemen learn the offense and blocking schemes, Dietrich will be in good shape.
"We started with my Uncle Doug coaching and he got us going great, then my dad and Coach Torgerson took over and we kind of just ran a different offense this year, it's been different, but we're getting to know the offense. Lighthouse has speed and we got to contain it, if we get it contained, hopefully we can hang with them," explains Garrett Astle, a junior running back and safety.
Junior running back and linebacker Porter Robertson adds, "we got numbers this year, but a lot of them are younger that are developing. We have a couple of good seniors and a couple of good juniors so I think we'll be good this year."
"We kind of got a more skilled, offensive scheme this year and what we're going to do. I think it will help us a lot, won't be so basic and if we execute what we do, we'll be fine," adds Rick Astle, a second-year assistant coach for the defense.
Kick–off against Rockland is Friday at 7 p.m.
