TWIN FALLS, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) If you're going to beat the best, you got to play like the best and CSI did that this season. Two men's basketball players earned NJCAA All-American honors, Charles Jones Junior and Khalid Thomas.
Jones is one of 10 athletes named to the first-team. The Utah bound sophomore nearly broke the school's all-time scoring record.
He finished with 1,194 points, while former All-American Fredrick Edmond had one more.
Jones led the team with 19.7 points and 3.7 assists per game. Three of the other men mentioned on the first-team CSI tangled with in the tournament, in Andres Feliz from Northwest Florida State, LJ Figueroa of Odessa and Isaiah Tisdale of Vincennes.
Thomas made the honorable mention team. He ranked second on the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game and added 6.5 rebounds per game.
Other notable athletes that CSI played in the tournament, Jordan Brangers of the national champion, South Plains and Vincennes' Lony Francis Junior. These athletes also made the honorable mention squad.
Jones explained, "I set out freshman year with some goals and I've accomplished every one of them."
Thomas said, "my goal coming into school was to make a name for myself and be known. Me getting the honorable mention for All-American team is really cool, especially for being a freshman, it's a good accomplishment and I'm very excited about it.'"
Jones on Thomas, "I've been saying a lot of things about Khalid since he came on his visit my freshman year, he's a 6'9" guard, that's NBA to me. Shoot, I'm not trying to blow up his head, but he a good player, he a good player."
This is Jones' second All-American honor. Don't be surprised if Thomas chases Jones' accomplishments next season.
