Minico's miscues cost the Spartans a trip to the state title game

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Minico led 33-30 at the half, but the third quarter went back and forth and Caldwell found itself on a 7-0 run.

The game featured approximately a half dozen lead changes. The Spartans' highest lead was 10 in the second half, but the Cougars quickly erased that.

College of Southern Idaho signee Taylia Stimpson led Minico with 21 points.

Head coach Anna Bateman explained, "they (Caldwell) made that run at the end of the third quarter where it was 7-0 and then we chipped it back." "We had chances, we got a stop and we're coming down and then we turn it over, then with seven seconds left, we turn it over. What a great game, what a fun chance to be in the big dance and get a championship."

Caldwell ended up winning 58-56 and they will play Great Basin Ten District champion and Minico's conference foe Century for the 4A state championship on Saturday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. Meanwhile, the Spartans will remain at Timberline High School where they can go for third place against Middleton on Saturday at 11 a.m.
