Mussman leads Valley to third straight district title; local hoops roundup

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) After a slow start that resulted in a halftime score of 17-15, Valley came from behind and exploded for 23 points in the third quarter. Oakley found itself down for most the second half and couldn't overcome the deficit.

Valley won its third straight district championship with the final of 46-39. Zane Mussman led all scorers with 20 points. Gannon Critchfield had 15 in the loss.

Mussman told us what the Vikings have going for them this season, "we have nine seniors and we've been working together since Kindergarten, it's chemistry basically."

The Vikings look to improve upon a state runner-up finish next Thursday when the state tournament begins. Their first game will be at 1:15 at Vallivue High School.

Meanwhile, Oakley takes on Glenns Ferry on Thursday at Murtaugh High School, tip-off is slated for seven pm. They're fighting for a spot in a state play-in game Saturday at McCall-Donnelly High School.

Declo 67, Wendell 16: The Hornets are the district champions and will face North Fremont in the first round on Thursday at Capital High School. Tip-off is 1:15 p.m. Declo is 16-7, while the Huskies are 17-6.

(4) Murtaugh 77, (3) Dietrich 75 (3 OT): The Red Devils will face Carey in the next loser-out game on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (5) Carey eliminated (6) Hansen, 51-40.
