Ririe, Declo in contention for title at the Magic Valley Classic

WENDELL, Idaho ( KMVT / KSVT ) Many of the larger wrestling teams traveled to the Madison Invitational or Spring Creek, Nevada for big tournaments, while the Magic Valley Classic at Wendell High School is the big local one here featuring 25 teams.

We start off with some Oakley wrestlers, in the 120 weight class, McCall's Arlen Main pins Oakley's Dillion Hilshire after three minutes.

Erick Koellen picks up his teammate by pinning Keeler Housley of Soda Springs in the first round.

Koellen would lose in the next round.

In the 126 weight class, Austin Barker of Declo makes quick work of Oakley's Junior Corona via a fall in the first round.

Barker then lost his next match.

Filer's Austin Graham and Wood Rivers's Preston Wolfey went to the third round, and the Wildcat ended up with the pin.

He would drop his next one though. The tournament showcases many 2A programs and many of these wrestlers who place at the Wendell tourney fare the same at state.


After day one, Ririe is in first place with 99 points. But Declo is knocking on the door at 95. Dax Blackmon of Declo is in the semifinal in the 98 weight class, so is Layton Clark in the 106.

In the 120 division, there's Caden Crider of Declo pushing for a title.

The hometown hero in the 126 is Wendell's Raphael Roque, who's in the semis, so is Dale Schoth in the 132.

Oakley's Sam Mitton has made it far in the 138, same with Tony Marino of Declo for the 145 class.

Abel Santana of Declo is on one side of the bracket, while Denzil Lloyd of Raft River is on the other in the 160 division.

Nathan Pauls is fighting for first in the 170 for Gooding.

For the 220, Dawson Osterhout is still in the running for 220.

In the 285 weight class, it's Jake McGinnis and Rodrigo Romero of Gooding who are both alive.

Finals begin at 2 pm.
