Rubio beats Bertao; Bliss back in the state championship game

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Day two of state soccer in the books. We take you to Sunway Soccer Complex where four of our five local teams entered the day still in contention for a 3A state title.

Bliss taking on Filer in the boys semi–final. The Bears already beat the Wildcats once during the regular season.

The teams would not score at all in the first half. We take you deep into the second part of the game, Steven Rubio, Bliss' key scorer on the attack, but Filer goalkeeper Joseph Bertao is issued a yellow card for a handball based on his location on the field. He goes out, in comes in Jonathan Gale.

But Bliss forward Rubio barely misses the net, still no score and Bertao comes back into the match right after that play concludes.

Around the 75th minute, Rubio, tracks down this one on the run and his shot right around Bertao, finds the net. The north half of the sideline going wild. That would be the dagger.

Bliss survives, returning to the championship game for a second straight year, while the Wildcats head to the third place game.

"It's so fantastic you know, it helped us control more of the game, might have got them frustrated and made them make mistakes," explained Rubio on his goal.

Bliss head coach Brent Bjorrn added, "we counter-attacked, returned a long ball, it got loose, he tracked it down, he got it in the goal finally."
