TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) An annual tradition is drawing near, remembering a fallen firefighter. The Ryan Franklin Memorial Basketball game is just around the corner, on August 11 at Lighthouse Christian School. The game begins at 6 p.m.
Franklin was killed in May of 2016 while riding his bicycle in the countryside.
He coached at Lighthouse and Wendell, plus trained kids from Filer.
The game will feature his former players, college teammates and colleagues. They'll play the game on the Ryan Franklin Court.
"You never want anything to happen to you like what happened to Ryan. At the end of the day, you want to be remembered like Ryan has been remembered. No one talks about his titles, his degrees, how much he made, anything like that. They talk about what kind of father he was, friend he was, just how he impacted all of our lives," explained friend Cory Holloway.
Donations are accepted upon entrance to the game. With the proceeds, Ryan's widow Amie created a scholarship given to a Lighthouse senior. The student-athlete writes an essay that details what a teacher/coach has done to impact their lives.
Jordan Bradshaw earned the scholarship this past school year.
