TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) Everyone is on the road this week, playing in collegiate facilities for the Idaho state football semi-finals.
On Friday, Oakley heads to Holt Arena for a 5:30 p.m. game against the reigning 1A DI state champion, Prairie. The Hornets have had to overcome an injury-plagued season to get this far. Oakley defeated Idaho City, 50-16 last week on the road in the quarterfinal, while the Pirates handed Raft River a 40-22 loss.
Carey travels to the Kibbie Dome for its first true test of the season in the Kendrick Tigers. Both teams are undefeated and scoring at will. The Panthers are the reigning 1A D-II state champion and this game will definitely give you that state championship vibe. Kick-off is slated for Friday at 8:30 p.m. PT.
On Saturday, make plans to camp out at Holt Arena. You'll probably visit the concession stand a time or two, as we have four teams playing there.
In the morning game, it's Declo vs. West Side at 11. Both the Hornets and Pirates enter this matchup with 10-0 records. Declo, the reigning state champion has been scoring at least 40 points the past eight games. West Side is also an explosive force, only scoring under 10 points once this season.
At 1:30 p.m. you'll find the Valley Vikings trying to make a run for a state championship when they play the Wilder Wildcats. Wilder is the Western Idaho Conference champion and boasts an overall record of 9-1. Valley won the Snake River Conference, losing only once to Raft River, 44-42. They are also 9-1.
Then at 4 p.m., Lighthouse plays Salmon River in one of the 1A D-II state semi-final games. The Lions shut out Dietrich on Friday in the quarterfinals. The Savages are coming off a 50-12 defeat of Deary. Salmon River has won six in a row. Lighthouse only lost once to Carey this season and enjoys a 9-1 record.
Finally we have the 6:30 p.m. contest between the Kimberly Bulldogs and Sugar-Salem Diggers. These teams are extremely comparable in talent and have only lost one game on the year, both to Declo. The Mountain Rivers Conference Champion went 2-0 in league play, while the Bulldogs took care of business in the Sawtooth Idaho Central Conference, going 3-0. Last week the Diggers shut out Marsh Valley, 41-0. Kimberly edged out Fruitland, 37-35.
