Mattalyn Geddes took ninth at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon.

The junior recorded a time of 17:28.3., the only runner from the Northwest to finish in the top ten.

Katelyn Tuohy of New York, also a junior, won her second cross country championship with a blistering fast time of 16:37.8. That time broke her own course record.

As for Geddes, she just competed with the best high school cross country runners in the nation.

Geddes on accomplishment, "I also thought it would be cool to beat those Northwest girls, I made good friends with them and they're super good runners. But also I wanted to prove them wrong, even if I got fifth at regionals." "I just wanted to leave it all out there and have an awesome race."

Geddes' next goal is to get down into the four minute range in the mile during track season and run a sub–11 minute time in the two mile.
