Twin Falls wrestling teams on the rise as Wiley Dobbs Invitational nears
Wiley Dobbs might be known as the face of the Twin Falls School District, but he's very involved in the wrestling world as well.
So it's really no surprise that there is a wrestling tournament this weekend that is named after him.
The district superintendent wrestled at Twin Falls High School and then coached at O'Leary Junior High School and Twin Falls.
The Dobbs family started an endowment through the Twin Falls Education Foundation to help the wrestling program.
The endowment gives coaches the opportunity to not worry about raising funds, but focusing on the kids and the sport.
Dobbs explained, "we have two outstanding coaches, two outstanding activities directors at our high schools and middle schools, it's exciting to see wrestling at its zenith right now in Twin Falls as far as coaching and talented athletes, I'm pleased to be a small part of it."
30 teams are expected to attend.
The JV will compete at Canyon Ridge, while the varsity takes part at Twin Falls High School.
The JV meet commences at 3:05 on Friday, while the varsity gets underway at 3:30. They both start again Saturday at 9 am.
Trophies will be given to the two top finishing teams at each tournament site.
Wrestlers who finish in the top five varsity and four JV will receive medals.
