WEISER, Idaho (CBS2) — A new Safe Haven Baby Box has been installed at Weiser Memorial Hospital, giving parents a way to anonymously surrender newborns without fear of prosecution. The organization behind the boxes hopes parents choose to surrender instead of abandonment or harm.

CBS 2 in Boise reported that in Idaho, newborns 30 days old and younger can be surrendered to a Safe Haven Baby Box, a hospital, a fire/EMS station, or a physician/nurse.

Organizers said, “We love a location that borders a state with no baby boxes. It helps make anonymous surrender possible for Eastern Oregon. That is legal and we are so thankful this community made this come to fruition!”

Montana is the only bordering state with a Safe Haven Baby Box.
