Gem State drivers feel the impact of over a dollar increase in gas since last year

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — AAA Idaho reports that drivers in the Gem State continue to feel the impacts of higher gas prices.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.62, which is two cents more than a week ago, 27 cents more than a month ago and $1.16 more than a year ago. Lewiston has the highest gas price at $4.69 per gallon, while Franklin has the lowest at $4.39 per gallon. Idaho still ranks No. 7 this week for gas prices.
Nationally, gas is $4.15 per gallon, which is six cents more than a week ago, 13 cents more than a month ago and 96 cents more than a year ago. Generally, the price of gas drops dramatically soon after Labor Day, but this year is far from it, according to AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde.
Tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine are putting “significant pressure” on the crude oil market, according to AAA Idaho. West Texas Intermediate is currently at $92 per barrel, which is about $10 more than a month ago and $30 more than a year ago.
“As long as market fears persist, crude oil prices will be jittery,” Conde said. “And that can have a pronounced impact on everything from delivery charges to jet fuel. Fingers crossed that tensions ease before the busy Thanksgiving travel holiday.”
