TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Outside northbound and southbound lanes of Washington Street between Addison and Shoup avenues will be temporarily closed beginning at 5 a.m. June 22 through June 23 the City of Twin Falls said in a recent release.

City street crews are installing traffic delineators to help improve safety at one of Twin Falls’ busiest areas. The delineators are yellow posts placed on the double yellow line to deter drivers from crossing them. Many drivers have attempted to do so, which is illegal.

Accidents have increased in the area, according to the Twin Falls Police Department, causing significant delays for drivers, with traffic sometimes backing up north of Filer Avenue.

“These improvements are being made to protect motorists, reduce preventable crashes, and improve traffic flow along Washington Street,” Twin Falls Mayor Jason Brown said. “By preventing illegal and unsafe crossing movements, the City hopes to reduce the number of collisions and the lengthy traffic disruptions that follow.”

Drivers should use caution and obey all traffic control while crews are installing the delineators.
