January first will see many new laws go into effect, one of them being a law to curb drunk driving.

The law will now require first time offenders to have an ignition interlock installed in their vehicles for one year.

This makes Idaho the 31st state, including Washington DC, according to the Mothers Against Drunk Driving website.

Patrol Deputy Neil Schulz, with the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office explained that the devices prevent a car from starting, if alcohol is detected on the drivers breath.

"They got a mouth piece on it, they have to blow into it for a specific amount of time, and then it'll say ok, or not okay. If they have over a zero point 25 registered on the interlock, then their car wont start,” Schulz stated.

And the offender has to actually pay for the device each month, and Deputy Schulz said one woman he pulled over recently had one, and she said it costs her 80 dollars a month to have it installed.
